May 17, 2011; Ishinomaki, Miyagi Pref., Japan - Damage after the magnitude 9.0 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami that devastated the Tohoku region of Japan on March 11, 2011...A bench on a walkway along the Kitakami River sits partially submerged in the city of Ishinomaki. The city shifted southeast 17 feet (5.3 meters) and sank 4 feet (1.2 meters) as a result of the powerful 9.0 magnitude earthquake. Parts of the city now get flooded twice a day during high tide.
